Amdocs Mythbusting: Interesting data points from Intouch

I’ve spent the past one and a half days at the Amdocs Intouch conference in Europe. One of the sessions I attended  was titled “Amdocs Mythbusters” (after the Mythbusters show). Below are some stats that may be surprising to the reader. A main theme of the session was that Amdocs is more than a billing company. Dana Porter, VP and Heads of Global Marketing at Amdocs, told us the company has:

  • Over 1,000 CRM installations
  • Over 140 operational support system customers
  • Over 40 service delivery platform  installs in 30 countries
  • 50+ operators using its mobile internet and personalization technology
  • It is #1 mobile messaging and payment aggregator  in NA

Other interesting points of note:

  • Amdocs is growing its local presence in areas like APAC and CALA. (Figures were NDA)
  • Amdocs does matchmaking between service providers and app vendors. It is also running global innovation camps with service providers and Amdocs runs its own internal program called innovation harvesting program.

For me, Intouch has been an interesting event because it exposes the breadth of software and services that is required to successfully run a service provider. It also highlights how difficult it is for smaller vendors to participate in this space.  My sideline discussions with service providers have revealed that operators are interested in offering advanced services like personalization, but it is definitely an arduous process of technology and business process evolution. Providers are looking for trusted advisors and strategic partners in this space. While not a guarantee of success, the breadth of the Amdocs portfolio, including managed services, means it has multiple opportunity to engage with operators and grow its share of spend within operators globally.
